Baptism is a powerful and public declaration of our faith in Jesus Christ. It symbolizes the believer’s identification with His death, burial, and resurrection. At Siloam, we believe baptism is an essential step of obedience for every follower of Christ — an outward expression of an inward transformation.
The Bible teaches us that “Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (2 Corinthians 5:17). When we are baptized, we are declaring that our old life — our sin, our past, and our old ways — has been buried with Christ, and we rise to live a new life empowered by the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Himself set the example for us by being baptized in the Jordan River. “As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on Him” (Matthew 3:16). Through His obedience, He modeled the importance of baptism for every believer.
Baptism does not save us — our salvation comes by faith in Jesus Christ alone (Ephesians 2:8–9) — but it is a vital act of obedience that follows salvation. It is our public testimony that we have chosen to follow Jesus and to live for Him. “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins” (Acts 2:38).
At Siloam, baptism is a celebration of new beginnings. It’s a moment of joy as we witness lives transformed by the power of God’s grace and love. Whether you are new to faith or have followed Christ for many years, baptism is your opportunity to declare to the world: “I have decided to follow Jesus.”
